TOP FIVE HAUNTED PLACES AND IMAGE OF ALL TIME

5 THE ISLAND OF DOLLS - MEXICO

Every single tree is decorated with deformed and mutilated dolls. The dolls almost seem evil and I seriously wonder where one would buy such creepy dolls. Even though the island is totally abandoned, over 50 years ago, a man named Don Julian Santana left his wife and kids and moved there to live the rest of his life alone. When he was living there, the body of a dead little girl came floating up in one of the canals. Don Julian thought he had become haunted by her spirit. He began to collect dolls and decorate the island with them. He would trade vegetables and fruits in exchange for any dolls. The dolls were believed to be used by Don Julian as a shrine for the spirit that haunted him. Over the 50 years that he lived there, he continuously collected dolls and decorated them all over the island, until he died.

4 The Tulip Staircase Ghost

The story behind this picture was that on Sunday 19th June 1966, an old retire couple from Canada – decided to visit the Queen’s house due to the much speculation and hype of being haunted. While he was standing near the Tulip staircase, the old man took a picture of it and when it was later developed, there was a ghostly figure ascending the staircase in pursuit of a second and a third other ghostly figure on top of staircase (which is not quite clear in the photo) The camera roll was examined by researchers and they found no evidence of any kind of tampering done with the roll. At the time the photograph was taken (between 5.15pm and 5.30pm) the old man’s wife claimed that was standing with him and confirmed there was nothing on the stairs. The staircase itself was closed with a rope and ‘No Admittance’ sign. Strange shadowy apparitions and unexplainable noises of footsteps have been constantly reported near the Tulip Staircase by both staff and visitors. There have also been sightings of a pale woman who is seen wiping blood from the bottom of the staircase. She is believed to be the ghost of a maid who came over the highest banister and died at the foot of the stairs 300 years back. One can also sometimes hear creepy disembodied chanting of children which seem to be coming from within the Queens House.

The Whaley House - San Diego, USA

Since the mysterious deaths of the members of  the Whaley family, this house has seen all kinds of mysteries. Visitors have reported seeing the ghost of a woman in the garden, while many people also claim to have seen Thomas Whaley’s spirit in the parlour. A young girl who matches the description of Marion Reynolds, the great grand-daughter of Thomas Whaley, who died from ingesting ant poison, is reported to grab the arms of visitors as they tour the house, while a spectral dog is occasionally seen by children.

The Ghost of Freddy Jackson

In 1919, a group portrait of a World War I squadron was taken at the HMS Daedalus training facility. All seemed normal, save for one extra face in the crowd — the ghostly visage of Freddy Jackson, an air mechanic who had perished in an accident only two days before.

The Cooper Family Hanging

The story goes back to the mid 1950’s taking place in Texas. The Cooper family had just moved into an old house  that they bought and were really excited about it. So, they thought of preserving this memory by taking a picture of the whole family in their new home. But little did they know that there was someone else joining in on their celebration, a spooky figure hanging upside down from the ceiling.

TOP FIVE WORST DROUGHT OF ALL TIME

The 2012 Sahel Drought

A combination of failed crops, insect plague, conflict, and extreme drought collectively caused the ensuing famine that is considered one of the worst on the planet in recent years. Since 2012 nearly twenty million people have been facing hunger across eight countries in West Africa including the Sahel region.

4 The 1983–85 Drought in Ethiopia

The worst famine to hit Ethiopia in modern history was caused by an extreme drought that occurred in this region. It resulted in more than 400,000 deaths.

The 1982–83 Australian Drought

In terms of short-term rainfall deficiencies (up to one year) and their impacts, the 1982–83 drought was probably Australia’s worst in the twentieth century. It started in autumn 1982, with severe rainfall deficiencies over eastern Australia exacerbated by frequent sharp frosts in June and July. Dry conditions persisted, and by year’s end extensive areas of eastern Australia had had record low April to December rainfall. The upper Murrumbidgee River became a chain of waterholes and reservoirs throughout the southeast fell to levels unknown for many years.

2 The Dust Bowl 1934 - 1940

The Dust Bowl, also known as the Dirty Thirties, was a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the US and Canadian prairies in the 1930s. The drought came in three waves, 1934, 1936, and 1939–40, but some areas of the high plains experienced drought conditions for as many as eight years. The Dust Bowl affected one hundred million acres centered around the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma and touched adjacent sections of New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas, while it forced thousands of families to abandon their farms.

1 The Chinese Drought of 1941

This is considered by many the worst disaster completely attributed to a drought and lack of rainfall without any other factor such as conflicts, war, and other natural disasters occurring at the same time. The Chinese Drought of 1941 prevented millions from growing and consuming crops, as a result, an estimated three million people died.
